Event Description: "Water's Soul" by Jaume Plensa (2021) is a beloved fixture on the Jersey City waterfront. The mysterious, ubiquitous figure resides along the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway in the Newport section of Jersey City, New Jersey. They press a finger to their lips, and face their closed eyes across the waterfront. But what are they contemplating, behind their serene, quiet facade?
WATER’S SOUL SPEAKS is immersive poetry experience, centered around this iconic statue. Through JCAST, I will be partnering with a local community business, CAFE LAFAYETTE, to create an immersive multimedia experience that celebrates this iconic Jersey City monument within their business establishment: and we welcome you to participate in our collective community project.
In order to participate in this shared poetic experience, submit your poetic contribution as to what the statue would say, were it to speak: feel free to fill it with your own voice, or write a persona poem, from the point of view of the statue. Approved contributions will be recorded, performed and presented at the location throughout the duration of JCAST, October 3-5, 2025.
Submissions may be anonymous or credited, and participants are encouraged to join us for an Open Mic Poetry event that will be held on the premises of the Lafayette Cafe on Saturday, October 4.
Thank you for helping us celebrate Jersey City arts and industry, by being a part of this unique poetic experience.
